Weekly Wisdom

When people receive Jesus as their Lord and Savior, they receive enough power to live holy all their lives in the flesh. They have the power to never lie again. They have the power to resist every work of the devil in their lives. So why do Christians struggle with sin after they are born again?

Let’s break it down. II Corinthians 5:17 states that we become new creations when we accept Christ. Notice the word 'new'. He does not say we become renewed Christians when we get saved. He says we are new. In Romans 12:2, He says we become transformed by the renewing of the mind. That is it! Our mind has to go through a process of renewing. This process takes a long time. Many people do not want to pay the price, especially in the United States; because we have become a nation that operates in the 'instant' mode. We must make some long term goals if we are going to really be transformed and be able to receive God’s wonderful blessings in our life.

I worked 8 years for the Public Service Company. During those years, I learned a little about electricity. For example, the power that comes into our homes is reduced a great deal from when it comes out of the power plant. The way it is reduced is by transformers. If there are no transformers, we could not enjoy the appliances we have in our homes. The power would be so great that it would do damage to our homes instead of blessing them. When God’s Power comes to us, it is a great Power. It can hurt us instead of bless us if it is received by a mind that is not transformed. Notice, I did not say that the Power is transformed; the Power of God is the same. Instead, our mind must be transformed to receive the Power. The Word of God, or the revealed knowledge, is what transforms our lives. When the Holy Spirit starts revealing to you God’s knowledge, then your mind is being transformed. God has been transforming my mind in such an awesome way, it is almost beyond explanation. I know this, I can not think like I used to think. My mind just will not receive a lot of information that it once received.

The power to live holy will happen in your life, if you decide to go through the process. Here is a formula that can help you. Your time must be governed: time management is imperative if you expect your mind to be transformed in any reasonable amount of time.

We must stop the time thief. You only have 24 hours a day. You do not have time to waste. Our flesh does not really like a schedule, but if we want results, we must put ourselves on one. When I went to boot camp, they made the most of my time. They wanted me to be turned from a civilian to a soldier quickly. Those two months of boot camp seemed like hell, but I was changed because of it. Today, is a good time to start planning.

I want to encourage you to be a person of understanding. With God’s understanding, failure will be far behind you. The world today is looking for answers without God, and they do get answers; but many times the answers have satan’s interpretation on them. In Proverbs, the book of Wisdom, we find God’s heart revealed to us. Let’s look at a few scripture verses that deal with God’s understanding.

Proverbs 1:5 says;
“A wise man will hear, and will increase learning: and a man of understanding shall attain to wise counsel.”

In verse 6 we can see that a wise man will understand a proverb and it’s interpretation, and the words of the wise and their dark sayings. This refers to deep knowledge that you can’t understand without God revealing it to you.

Proverbs 19:8 says,
“He that getteth wisdom loveth his own soul: he that keepeth understanding shall find good.”

Now in this proverb we can see very clearly that good comes by understanding. A person that lacks understanding can not receive a lot of good.

When I was going to school as a boy, I didn’t see the importance of wisdom and knowledge. In fact, if I could have gotten out of it, I probably wouldn’t even have attended school. I was made to go, and it caused me to have some wisdom and understanding passed into me. I look back on those days now and think how ignorant I was. I started thinking about people today that have grown up and have gone to natural school but have never gone to spiritual school. In fact, they don’t even believe that the Bible is an important book. Can you imagine that God has written a book and not very many people want to read it? God, the all-knowing One (that can help people solve all their problems), wrote a book and people don’t take time to read it! What would you say is the problem with people? I think it’s just like me when I was going to school. I didn’t see the importance of being a person of knowledge and understanding.

One day, a long time ago, I was at the shop I worked in; and I looked over at a dumpster that had trash in it. I thought to myself, “my life is like a dumpster”. It was full of trash, and it stunk. Something really went off in me that day. I knew I had to change my life, and from that day I started setting a different course for my life. I decided the Bible was the book that could help me change my life. I started out on my adventures of faith! God has guided me into understanding that has given me freedom I didn’t even know existed. My mind is so excited about life today. It is just awesome! I wake up thinking God’s thoughts. I hear God’s voice on a consistent basis. I think at times that if things get any better, I will explode. God is so good. If you can only think like Him, you will be filled with God’s goodness.

Proverbs 21:16 says,
“The man that wandereth out of the way of understanding shall remain in the congregation of the dead.”

I’m convinced that people who don’t continue increasing in wisdom and understanding will start dying. Every day should be a new day of learning all that God wants you to know. If you’re not a presser into knowledge and wisdom, why don’t you start today? Make yourself take the Bible and start studying until you have great delight in the study of the Word.
